I believe the main reason for using Stroud there was to rest Santos for the midweek game. Then get Schnegg there by the NE game.

Appreciate your articles and thoughts Matt! Keep up the great work. I'm not sure if you meant it this way but get tired of this player is to good for MLS narrative. Cucho is a top player that has played in the Premier League but that doesn't mean MLS is beneath him and he never acts that way. MLS needs more players like him if we all want the level to raise! He is getting paid, doing great and appears to be enjoying his time in MLS!

Thanks Lee! And you're totally right. Cucho is really helping the league in way that Jhon Durán, say, didn't. I'm glad the league has young (well, youngish) star players like Cucho...when he's playing against other teams. When he plays against DC, I reserve the right to resent his presence.

Jokes aside, I also have to say that while big spending teams are probably good for the league...I guess...I don't like them in general and have enjoyed no small amount of schadenfreude watching Toronto and Atlanta incinerate money seeing as DC can't match that type of spending (Cucho cost $10 million on transfer fee alone). I selfishly prefer the players in DC's reach, whether that's because they are prospects like Lucho was or guys tragically underappreciated in Europe like Carles Gil.

Well said Matt! Appreciate the quick response and conversation!! Lucho was a really neat prospect. It is ashamed that he couldn't have reached his MVP play with DC even though you could argue that 2018 season with Rooney was MVP worthy those last 12-15 games.

Jhon Duran is a good example of not helping but do think he still helped from a marketing perspective to other potential players who want to use MLS is a launching point! I'm like you and prefer players like Cucho and the young big money guys vs players like Giroud and the fan in me enjoys seeing great players who have had great careers to so to me, MLS has been doing a good job on both sides over the past 5-8 years. Hope he keeps moving forward and growing!! Take Care 🙂
